Melanie qualified in 1995. She has specialised in employment law since then, with Eversheds in Cardiff and subsequently as a partner of McDermott, Will and Emery in London. She left McDermott, Will and Emery to take a short career break to look after her family and joined Henmans as a Consultant in May 2011.
Melanie has acted for a wide range of corporate and individual clients, across a number of sectors including financial services, food, pharmaceuticals and education. She regularly advises on bringing and defending employment proceedings and has significant advocacy experience in the Employment Tribunal; executive hiring and firing, and advice on team moves; complex employment issues arising out of corporate transactions including TUPE and post-acquisition harmonisation; and the vast array of other employment law problems faced by HR teams on a day to day basis. She has also had significant involvement in the co-ordination of numerous cross border matters involving collective redundancies, restructuring, data protection and European works councils.
Described by clients as calm and measured in her approach, but always quick to respond, Melanie is never phased by the sticky problems faced by employers and employees alike.
She has written an number of books on employment law, notably Guide to Employment Law; Employment Law Made Easy; and Your Rights at Work, all published by Law Pack Publishing Limited. She has also been a regular speaker on employment law, and is happy to provide bespoke client seminars and workshops.
