Degree: Law, University of Surrey
LPC: College of Law, Guildford
After finishing my degree and LPC I applied for both training contracts and paralegal places in order to gain experience at practising law and dealing with clients. In August 2009 I joined a firm in Bristol where I worked in the RTA small claim recoveries team. I subsequently moved to the personal injury department in August 2010. I had applied for a training contract at Henmans and was excited to have been invited to an assessment day at the beginning of September 2009.
I first met Henmans at a law fair at the International Conference Centre in Birmingham. Henmans were the first firm I spoke to in the morning. The representatives were friendly and informative, and the trainees appeared to enjoy their work and felt valued as part of the team. I liked the idea of being given responsibility for the work I was doing, and also getting to meet and deal with clients, which you may not get at a large City firm. I was pleased to have been offered a training contract starting in 2011, and continued to gain experience working at a firm in Bristol over the next 2 years.
I have just started my first seat in the personal injury department. I have already attended client meetings and drafted witness statements for clients and witnesses. I have been assisting in both claimant and defendant work; and have already started to get involved in anything ranging from small claim road traffic accidents to multi track employers’ liability claims.
Aside from law I enjoy sport, particularly playing hockey and cricket. There are a number of social events run by Henmans which are a good opportunity to get to know people in the area, as well as network with potential contacts.
