Henmans strengthens key teams with recruitment and promotions

01 October 2010

Henmans is delighted to welcome three new arrivals to the firm in its family, charities and corporate practices as well as to announce promotions in its private client, dispute resolution, personal injury and family teams.

Elizabeth Marsh joins the family law practice, bringing the team to four and making it one of the largest in Oxfordshire. Elizabeth qualified in 2009 after training at Wilsons. The family team is also promoting Helen Taylor to partner. Helen qualified in 2000 and specialises in high net worth ancillary relief cases. Helen is also a trained collaborative lawyer, the technique of aiding divorcing couples to work out their differences without going to court.

Robert Foster joins the charities practice from the City of London where he was responsible for implementing a major review of all its charities. Robert qualified in 1985 and advises charities on the commercial issues they face as well as charity law matters. He has worked for all kinds of organisations in the sector including start-ups, family charities, charitable companies, community interest companies, professional organisations and royal charter bodies with activities covering everything from grant giving to education and international aid.

Tom Walker joins the corporate team. Tom qualified in 2006 and specialises in corporate and commercial advice with a particular focus on company sales and purchases. He is experienced in advising owner-managers of SMEs and understands their particular legal and commercial needs. He is looking forward to working with Henmans’s high quality client base. The corporate and commercial team at Henmans now consists of two partners and four other lawyers, continuing our plans to expand the department.

Esther Stirling is promoted to associate in the dispute resolution team. Esther’s practice includes property, professional indemnity and commercial disputes, contentious trust and probate and equine-related matters. Esther qualified in 2005 and during 2007-8 sat as the young solicitor member of the Law Society’s working party examining forthcoming changes to the LPC.

Claire Bendle becomes an associate in the private client team, now the largest in Oxfordshire. She specialises particularly in larger and more complex estates.  She advises on wills and tax planning matters for clients and advises on preparation of lasting powers of attorney.  Claire qualified in 1992. She subsequently worked at Withy King and joined Henmans in 2006. Claire is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).

Julie Carlisle is promoted to associate in the personal injury team. Julie specialises in personal injury work for claimants including employers’ liability, road traffic accidents including motorcycle and pedal cycle claims, public liability and occupiers’ liability.   Julie also has experience in handling industrial disease claims including noise-induced deafness, repetitive strain injury, vibration white finger, diseases related to exposure to asbestos and claims for work related stress.

Julia Iball, managing partner, commented, “The two year consolidation period that the recession has afforded us has been time well spent, allowing us to look at working practices and tighten our belts where necessary. We didn’t have to make any redundancies due to the recession, something of which we’re very proud, and we’re now in a strong position to continue to expand the firm and maintain our dominant position in Oxford.”
