George is a property lawyer advising landed estates, farmers, charities, and land investors in relation to both agricultural and commercial property matters. George advises on the sale and acquisition of farms, landed estates, and land investments in both the rural and the commercial sector; he also advises in relation to leasehold matters for both rural and commercial property owners and occupiers.

Recent/significant experience includes:

  • Acting for a rural landed estate on the re-purchase of land requisitioned from it by the government in the 1940's; advising in relation to the c.£13m re-purchase contract, simultaneous subsale to a developer, the associated grant of easements over retained land, and in relation to the successful defence to a claim for possessory title of a parcel of unregistered land forming part of the development site.
  • Advising an urban landed estate on acquisition and management matters including the recent £34m acquisition of a historic terrace of mixed use properties.
  • Acting on the sale of a 2,000 acre mixed agricultural and sporting estate in the Thames Valley.
  • Acting on the sale of a Berkshire stud farm.
  • Advising landowners in relation to wind farm option agreements.

George trained at Jacksons in Middlesbrough, on qualification he moved to Jeffrey Green Russell in Mayfair for two years, he then spent ten years at Speechly Bircham in the City before moving to Henmans in January 2011.

George spent most of his childhood on a dairy farm in Sussex and has a strong interest in rural land use issues, he is a keen game fisherman and enjoys fine wine and good food. George is a member of the Agricultural Law Association and the Royal Forestry Society.
