Clare is a Senior Associate in the firm's dispute resolution department. Her practice spans property disputes, professional indemnity disputes, and commercial disputes.

Clare regularly acts on a full range of property related disputes including lease renewals, forfeiture and possession claims, title and rights of way disputes, dilapidations, rent and service charge recovery, Party Wall Act disputes and leasehold enfranchisement. Clare has particular experience of Land Registry Adjudications, PACT arbitrations and also regularly successfully resolves disputes using mediation.

Clare has wide experience of acting for solicitors, surveyors, architects and engineers and other professionals and their insurers, often on complex and high value claims. She has particular experience of group litigation.

Clare also acts on a variety of commercial disputes, including breach of contract claims, shareholder disputes, protection of confidential information and insolvency and IP related claims. Her Legal Week article on the status of domain names can be read here.      

Her significant cases include:

  • Acting for the main defendant vetting solicitor and their insurer in both litigation and mediation arising from the collapse of The Accident Group.
  • A heavily contested right of way dispute before the Land Registry Adjudicator, involving over 40 witnesses whose evidence spanned 50 years.
  • Acting on a high value lease extension application in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal where the level of premium was strenuously contested.
  • Tesco v Costain and others (a £17m architect's negligence/construction case).
  • Defending a firm of solicitors being pursued by the single largest private investor on the London Stock Exchange for failed litigation against his former broker. 
  • The successful recovery from guarantors of earn out on a company sale following default by the purchaser.

Clare trained at Nicholson Graham & Jones and qualified in 1993. She spent seven further years there as a senior solicitor in their dispute resolution team. She worked at Allens Arthur Robinson in Melbourne until 2002, when she joined Henmans.
