Cauda equina syndrome

Cauda equina is the medical term for the bundle of nerves at the base of the spinal column. These nerves may become compressed through accidental injury, through pressure from a prolapsed disc or due to a blood clot forming after surgery to the lumbar spine.  This is known as cauda equina syndrome (CES).

Whatever the cause, rapid diagnosis followed by urgent surgical decompression is essential if permanent nerve damage is to be avoided.  Where there has been delay in recognising the symptoms of nerve compression, or where there has been a delay in operating to release it, you may be entitled to damages for the injuries and losses that would otherwise have been avoided.

Our specialists at Henmans are experienced in handling spinal injury and cauda equina syndrome claims - our cases include M v Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
