Efficient leverage of assets is high on every charity’s agenda, and we specialise in helping the third sector to make the best use of its resources – both tangible (such as commercial property) and intangible (such as its brand).
Our specialist commercial expertise allows us to offer third sector clients advice on the best ways to make the best use of their assets.
Examples of the work we handle include:
Property
We have wide experience in property matters with specific reference to charities. We recognise the different requirements associated with operational and investment properties and can assist in all aspects of property ownership or occupation from acquisition through to occupation, development, construction, leasing and fit-out arrangements to disposal.
Intellectual property
Many third sector organisations overlook the value locked up in their brand and other intellectual property. With our help that value can be unlocked through licensing or similar arrangements. In all cases, whether it is intended to exploit the organisation’s brand or not, we can initially advise on recognition of these intellectual assets and how to protect them (and the organisation’s reputation when utilising them).
Recent examples of our work
Development sale
Several charities and non-charities had been bequeathed a small brownfield site. Iain Davis’ team dealt with negotiations with the executors and advised on the replacement of the planning adviser and the appointment of a new firm of surveyors. Planning permission was then obtained for the residential development of the site. The successful bidder completed promptly so that the planning dividend could quickly be realised by the beneficiaries.
