Nationally recognised charities practice recruits another expert

03 January 2007

Henmans is proud to announce that Alan Poulter joins its nationally recognised and rapidly expanding charities practice from today.

Alan, formerly head of trusts and estate planning at Manches LLP, is recognised as a leading practitioner in his field. He specialises in the formation and administration of charities and is an expert in the law relating to universities, particularly Oxford Colleges. He has wide experience in acting as an executor and as trustee of a large number of private trusts and is a trustee of several charities. Alan’s appointment is part of the continued development of the charities practice which will see further expansion in the New Year.

This appointment comes at an important time following the grant of Royal Assent to the Charities Act 2006 which represents a major review of the law governing charities. Many of our charity clients will be seeking advice and considering changes as a result of the new Act which comes into force this year.

The Henmans charities practice is very highly ranked by Chambers, the Legal 500 and the Caritas Top 3000 Charities directory. It was shortlisted for the STEP Charity Team of the Year award in 2006, and is described by Chambers as “a knowledgeable practice of painstakingly high quality". The expert cross-practice group provides one-stop-shop advice to charities ranging from small local start-up charities to national charities such as Oxfam and Cancer Research UK. The advice covers areas as diverse as commercial contracts, legacies, employment and property, as well as traditional constitutional advice.

Angela Bowman, joint head of charities with Alison Talbot, commented, “We are delighted that Alan is joining the team – our excellent reviews and national reputation have contributed to us being able to recruit respected industry experts to join us.”
